Big Boy Bed

Core has now been in his BIG BOY bed for a little over a month.  This was a transition we wanted to make before baby Graham's arrival so that Core could get into the routine of being in his big boy bed.  With any major change comes an adjustment period and overall he has done great.  The only real difference is that when his eyes open in the morning no matter what time it is, he is up. Oh and since being in his big boy bed, he has also learned to open his bed room door.  So that means when he's up, he's up and out of his room and in mommy and daddy's room.  All in all though it's been a good transition and Core is so proud of his big boy bed.  When he's get into bed now, he doesn't want any help and says, " I can do it my big boy self "!  Hmm, we have a Mr. Independent on our hands.

We had to patiently wait on the conversion bed rails to come in ( and that's a separate story for another time), so it was a somewhat gradual ( quick, but gradual) transition from crib, to full size mattresses on the floor, to a full size bed with guard rail, and now no guard rail.  Yes, just within a little over a month he has transition to an official BIG BOY size bed.

Little man was very excited to see his big boy bed for the first time.

He was so proud and excited.

Core's first nap in his big boy bed.

Part of being in a big boy bed is being able to get out of it, so with this transition I've learned that little ones become harder to contain in their beds.  Each night before I go to bed, I go into Core's room to check on him and for some reason I have always made a habit of going in through the guest room and bathroom to enter Core's room, instead of going through his bedroom door. Well, on this one particular night I was glad that I had this OCD routine of mine because if not, I would have hit little man right in the head if I had gone through his bedroom door.  I had been working a 1pm-9 pm shift and was on call and before going to bed I went in as I usually do to kiss him good night, and my heart dropped when I didn't find him in the bed. My initial reaction was that he must be covered up and smothering underneath all his stuffed animals, which he now puts in the bed with him.  But then I heard a sigh behind me, and turned around to find Core passed out in front of his bedroom door and sound asleep.  Apparently, this was the night he wore himself out trying to figure out how to open his door, because the next morning he was in our room at 6 am when he woke up.  Surprise Mommy and Daddy, it was exhausting work, but I learned to open my door!

and next we're up and off the ground...

Look!  No bed rails...
