Mommy's Project 52:12 Time Out

The Pout!
TIME OUT!
"Time out " is happening more and more in our household these days, as Core is approaching 2 years old.  We initially started "time out" to start disciplining Core when he didn't listen to me or Chris.  "Time out" initially took place by our backdoor, in our small hallway and Core would sit there for one minute.  He even started going to put himself in "time out" from time to time if we would mention it. Well as Core gets older and more and more curious, he is no longer contained in the back hallway, so now our " time out" takes place in his room.  I have removed all potential hazards and any easily accessible toys from his room ( or so I think), and he now goes to his room for time out.  This way Chris and I are both out of sight and it seems to have more of an impact on him!  Typically it's a crying spell for about 5- 10 minutes, then once he settles down, Chris or I go in to have a quick little chat about why we don't do whatever it was, that landed Core in time out initially.  It seems to be working well, somewhat. I guess as good as disciplining a 21 month old can go.  I guess we will see and modify as we go if need be. I have to admit though that " time out" is not easy for everyone involved, but I hope it will help Core learn discipline in the long run.  Hearing Core cry can be heart breaking, but once his time out is over and his little tears are all dried up, he usually looks at me or Chris, gives us a hug,  and says "SORR- Y", and it just melts our hearts!

  1. Time out sure takes on a life of its own! Sounds like it's working out well for you and Core!
