Happy Feet- Game 1: Tigers vs Dolphins

Core had his first soccer game today!  He's playing in the Happy Feet League here in Baton Rouge.  His team color is PURPLE and their mascot is the TIGERS! How appropriate...Go Tigers!   Core initially started playing soccer through the Happy Feet classes offered at his previous school the beginning of this year and he loved it. Their motto is " Story time with a soccer ball".   His new school does not offer the program, so when we heard the " Happy Feet" coaches were starting an actual league here in Baton Rouge, we were excited to get him involved.  Technically, the league starts at 3 years of age but they will not turn down any eager 2 year olds ( and their families) from participating.  We thought this would be a fun way for Core to expend some energy and get started in a team soccer program.

Today, was Core's first game. It was at 1:00pm and boy was it HOT!  But that didn't seem to bother the little ones, just us parents.  The games are structured by each team first having a 15- 20 minute warm up and practice and then the game begins.  Basically each team is given equal opportunity. One team is given the ball on one side of the field at the goal line and tries to kick the ball down the field into the opposite goal with the other team somewhat defending ( but not exactly at this age) and then vice versa.  Core had a blast and when i told him that the object of the game was to get the soccer ball in the goal, he understood.  When his team was given the ball for the first time, Core was the first one to kick it. He ran and kicked it all the way down the field and scored the first goal of the game.  His Daddy would be so proud!  Chris had to work today and I know he hated to miss the first game, but we kept him updated and took plenty of pics for him to enjoy.
